Candid moments on the London Underground - BBC News

Since the first trains ran on the London Underground in 1863 the tunnels and platforms that make up the network have acted as the backdrop to the lives of the many passengers travelling across the capital.
For photographer Mike Goldwater the interactions and chance encounters were there to be recorded by his camera. Taken during the 1970s, these pictures capture the network before modernisation, a time when you were allowed to smoke and tickets were purchased from large machines for just a few pennies.

Prague Metro -- and Subway Stairs

Still on a bit of a lark with a photo group's weekly challenge: #LetterP . Theme: #Underground #StreetPhotography.
So - hmmm. Here for #P is #Prague #Praha #Praga - In what many now prefer to call #czechia . But the stairs say "Subway".

The Moscow Metro

A paradigm and imagery shift away from the NYC subway.
Context & Perspective bit here, as I may post some more shots from here:

This is a vestibule of Central Moscow's Metro system, with a train there in the background, grand foyer and exits behind me, and here is one of those statues I'd heard about. For anyone who has never experienced Moscow, it is true what they say - everywhere in the Metro you see very ornate art, both on the ceiling & walls, and with brass statues that people rub for luck. (See the rooster's beak.)
I have a few images of them and other Metro sights, but... not great quality as I was generally 'incognito' about the use of camera.

Anyway, this is the image of mine which best includes a bit of the main elements. There are grand archways and ceilings I can see images online but never with crowds of people, and in general it can be crowded, same as most underground rail lines in big cities.

Many more Moscow images & self-guided photo tour - city sights, fine art, historical squares & churches @ fenichel.com/moscow

Does Anyone remember books?

# 2 / 2
The "seating section" on the # 1 subway train in NYC.

This is very similar to the image I used a few years back when I took this ever-growing slice of subway life to make a banner for my page about TMI, "FB addiction", and 'device devotion'. A topic some may enjoy, and I've seen discussed. [ devicedevotion.com ]
