Jack Schofield, Guardian's Ask Jack tech columnist, dies at 72 | Media | The Guardian

Paper’s editor says Schofield was ‘one of the first true computing experts in British journalism’
This is a real shame. He not only made a big contribution to personal computing in the form of his Guardian and magazine articles, he was also a regular contributor to Quora, the answers site. I met him once when we were both writing for computer magazines and I have to say that Jack was a real gentleman. It made no difference to him that he was much more experienced both in tech and in writing. I shall miss his presence online.

UK people: do you have a 3D printer or know people who do?

Coronavirus: 3D-printer owners rally to create NHS face masks | BBC Technology News

Started by palliative-medicine doctor James Coxon, the 3DCrowd UK group is... looking to recruit more volunteers.

It says thousands of its 3D-printed masks have already been made and donated to hospitals, GPs, pharmacies, paramedics and social-care practices.
But they need hundreds of thousands more.
“We are... asking all the people around the country with 3D printers to join our project to create face shields for hospitals and other health workers,” said Gen Ashley from 3DCrowd UK.

“We also need volunteers to help distribute the masks and donations from companies and the public to pay for materials and distribution costs.”

The Safari app on both iOS 13.4 and macOS 10.15.4 platforms now fails to search for the plus symbol (+) on the internet.
