Nicky (15.06.2008 - 01.08.2021)
For more than 4 years you walked by my side as my shelter goddog. Your second life began after the official veterinarian impounded you because of bad husbandry. As a sad dog you came to our animal shelter and after a short time you then decided to live that new, better life to the fullest.
Many people will now say "How sad, he never found a real home", but we both know that you had the best home you could wish for. There were people that loved you. You got all the medical care you needed and special food to contain your allergy. Three walks every day and when possible you also could move freely in the shelter. You felt as the leader of the pack. I never left the animal shelter with a sad mind. I always knew that when I leave, the next volunteer will show up shortly after to spoil you.
Even though we always lose the last battle, there were many great victories on our way together. Strangers became friends. You developed from a sad to a happy dog. Your health improved. We gained time. Not only weeks or months, but more than two years! You were a tough fighter and we made the best of it.
When working as a shelter volunteer many dogs come and go. Most of them quickly find new homes. Some stay longer. Some stay forever. In our hearts. You found your place there already years ago.
Goodbye Nicky. Oh, those ears!
