Out of concern for keeping the rising internet traffic clear of congestion during the coronavirus outbreak, Google is making some changes to YouTube. Starting today, the video streaming service will cut the streaming quality default down to standard definition (480p) resolution for at least a month.I just checked, here in the UK, and YouTube still defaults to 1080p for me, though I expect this will change. I just lowered it to 720p to help out. If the video quality isn't important, I'll lower it to 480p.

A group formed by Facebook, Microsoft, Twitter and YouTube to combat terrorist abuse and online extremism on social media is becoming a separate organization. The Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism has announced today that it plans on hiring an executive director and separate staff to lead the initiative, which was formed a little more than two years ago. Earlier this year, YouTube promised to make its original shows -- exclusive to paying Premium members at the moment -- available to the public as ad-supported programming.
