@Andreas Sofaer - what means "sofaer" ? did anyone answer the question you have in your name?

Soafer is the last name of Raphael Soafer, one of the #diaspora* founder. It has been used as an example for the last name field in the diaspora* settings.

insporation* nightly builds are here

I created a F-Droid repository with nightly builds for insporation*, the #Flutter based #diaspora* client using the new #API, I've been building.

It still is #Android only and mobile-first for now. Some API routes are still missing or not optimal, leading to some things being slower than necessary. Contributions on all fronts are still welcome :)

This should make it easier if you want to try it out. Note however that you still need a pod running the latest develop branch of diaspora*. If you want an account on diaspora.social as a pod doing so, talk to me :)

Once you have F-Droid installed you can click this link if you're reading this on your device or scan the following QR code to add the repository.

I'm still proud to be in the #checkin post... and i'm a bit happy to give my very own copied bit of information to his very exclusive part of the #fediverse:

Look at this post for a bit of #markdown #knowledge for usage on #diaspora* ;)

@Christoph S You're absolutely right ... but we could mention that in the text. ;)

.oO( Or maybe one could add the #diaspora* specific parts to the #WP article? ;))

#diasporaTips of the day: help resources.

In yesterday tip I said that diaspora* support is done by the community, using the #question hashtag (Well, you could also use #help). But there are other places you can check before publishing a post!
  • First of all, diaspora* has an help section that you can access by clicking on your name in the header, and then clicking on "Help".
  • Second, diaspora* wiki has a very nice page called FAQ for users. You should be able to find a lot of answers there. And if you see something that's missing, add it, it's a wiki!
  • The last place where you can ask questions is the section support of the diaspora\* discourse forum. This should only be used for complex questions though, to avoid noise for the contributors there.
I hope with all that links you'll find the answers you're looking for! Welcome again all #newhere!

I try to publish everyday a new tip for #diaspora*, in both english and french. Of course you’re welcome to use that hashtag to share yours too!

Alright, there's a lot of #newHere currently. Let's create a new trend: the #diasporaTips hashtag!

I'll try to publish everyday a new tip for #diaspora*, in both english and #french. Of course you're welcome to use that hashtag to share yours too!

I'm going to start with something very simple. Today's tip: diaspora* is a community project, so is the users support! If you have any questions or are facing problems about diaspora*, simply post a public message with the #question hashtag. You should get an answer quickly!

Thanks and have a good day!

#Diaspora*

Hashtags are essential for search and connection on this platform for both people and topics of interest. However, when you're new you only see hashtags from your own pod.

In order to pull hashtags from across the Federation you must add people from other pods. This primes the connection to that pod. The more people you add from different pods the more robust your hashtag connections will be.
  • Always hashtag your content (when appropriate).
  • Connect to many pods through people on those pods.
  • Be excellent to each other!

Bienvenue Nadine.

Than you for the #repost.
Finding info like this is essential to get familiar with how #diaspora* works.

So why isn’t he championing #Diaspora* / the #Federation?
Because it is free. He is trying to get people to donate, but "WT" is still proprietary and not open source.
I would still love to see people leave fb for something else though. But I have doubts about whether his business model will prove popular enough.
You can already choose a "most recent" setting on fb, so there better be more to it than that.

‘The Anti-Facebook’: #Wikipedia co-founder launches ad-free #social #media platform

Fed up with #Facebook and #Twitter? If so, Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales hopes you'll join WT:Social, a new social media platform that promises not to run advertisements or sell user data.

WT:Social features a Facebook-like feed on which users can share news or other content. But unlike Facebook, whose algorithms prioritize content that's sponsored or receiving a lot of engagement, WT:Social simply shows new content first.

About 160,000 people have signed up for WT:Social since it launched in October. The platform is free to join, but new users are put on a wait-list, which can be instantly bypassed if you donate money. WT:Social hopes to survive only on donations.
So why isn't he championing #Diaspora* / the #Federation? Hmmm...

#permlink #howto

Permalink is a link to a specific post but on the very own server of your contact, not a link to the original post on the originating server or to that post on your server.

This is a link to a original post on its originating server:
* https://pod.geraspora.de/posts/5273741

The following is the link to that original post but on framasphere.
* https://framasphere.org/posts/2236427
Note that it has a different post ID →

[2236427]The next link is the permalink address to that same post on framasphere.
* https://framasphere.org/posts/6f0560306621013420774860008dbc6c
Note that the identifier of the actual post is longer →
[6f0560306621013420774860008dbc6c]It's the same identifier on all pods/nodes, even on #friendica servers.
Note: friendica uses /display/ instead of /posts/ in the link address.
In your stream you find that longer address at the permalink sign that shows up on the top part of the post when you hover over it.
In the single post view you find it as underlying link in the time stamp [posted X hours/days/years ago].

The following is the part you have to add as an in line link to make it show up as a permalink on the respective pod or node.
Note that the part of the server address https://framasphere.org/ is missing.

... ... ...

Question :

How (public) posts propagate from pod to pod on #diaspora*

Independently of wether you are #newhere or #oldhere it is worth knowing that:
A public post is delivered to your pod if it is posted (or reshared) by someone who is sharing with somebody (or with whom somebody is sharing) from your pod.
This explains why diaspora* may seem quite abandoned at first especially if you register to a small(er) pod and why sharing with people is important.

Welcome to #diaspora* @Lawrence
I hope you will find the people you want to meet and discuss the topics you are interested in. Feel free to tell a bit more about yourself and your interests. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask them. It will help to use the #help hashtag when asking questions.

Book Burning

The ritual destruction by fire of books or other written materials, usually carried out in a public context. The burning of books represents an element of censorship and usually proceeds from a cultural, religious, or political opposition to the materials in question.^1^

In modern times, this is enacted through digital content distribution manipulation.
