House Democrats to Introduce Articles of Impeachment Against Trump | WSJ

WASHINGTON—House Democrats plan to introduce articles of impeachment against President Trump on Monday, according to two Democratic aides, as lawmakers intensified calls to remove him from office after he encouraged a mob that later stormed the Capitol in an effort to disrupt the certification of his election loss to President-elect Joe Biden.

October 28, 1886: The Statue of Liberty Dedicated:

"Libertas, a robed Roman liberty goddess. She holds a torch above her head with her right hand, and in her left hand carries a tabula ansata inscribed JULY IV MDCCLXXVI (July 4, 1776 in Roman numerals), the date of the U.S. Declaration of Independence. A broken shackle and chain lie at her feet as she walks forward, commemorating the recent national abolition of slavery. After its dedication, the statue became an icon of freedom and of the United States, seen as a symbol of welcome to immigrants arriving by sea."

Americas other Civil War: Anti-Rent Wars of the 1830s and 1840s

From Howard Zinn's A People's History of the United States
  • The Other Civil-War
A sheriff in the Hudson River Valley near Albany, New York, about to go into the hills in the fall of 1839 to collect back rents from tenants on the enormous Rensselaer estate, was handed a letter: ... the tenants have organized themselves into a body, and resolved not to pay any more rent until they can be redressed of their grievances. . . . The tenants now assume the right of doing to their landlord as he has for a long time done with them, viz: as they please. You need not think this to be children's play... . if you come out in your official capacity ... I would not pledge for your safe return. ... A Tenant.

When a deputy arrived in the farming area with writs demanding the rent, farmers suddenly appeared, assembled by the blowing of tin horns. They seized his writs and burned them. That December, a sheriff and a mounted posse of five hundred rode into the farm country, but found themselves in the midst of shrieking tin horns, eighteen hundred farmers blocking their path, six hundred more blocking their rear, all mounted, armed with pitchforks and clubs. The sheriff and his posse turned back, the rear guard parting to let them through.

This was the start of the Anti-Renter movement in the Hudson Valley, described by Henry Christman in Tin Horns and Calico. It was a protest against the patroonship system, which went hack to the 1600s when the Dutch ruled New York, a system where (as Christman describes it) "a few families, intricately intermarried, controlled the destinies of three hundred thousand people and ruled in almost kingly splendor near two million acres of land." The tenants paid taxes and rents. The largest manor was owned by the Rensselaer family, which ruled over about eighty thousand tenants and had accumulated a fortune of $41 million. The landowner, as one sympathizer of the tenants put it, could "swill his wine, loll on his cushions, fill his life with society, food, and culture, and ride his barouche and five saddle horses along the beautiful river valley and up to the backdrop of the mountain."

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMERICA

100% Factual, beyond the level of knowledge of late, regarding U.S. History.
For 244 years of celebrating a declaration of Independence - From a king and his designees.

Today is the anniversary of INDEPENDENCE from tyranny. "Taxation without Representation". Things of that nature.

FACT: On this day in America, as every year, we traditionally celebrate INDEPENDENCE day - not stupidity or freedom from social responsibility. Independence, as declared and later enshrined into law in a Constitution. From tyranny, like tax policies for instance.

Reposting a song with the lyrics and a cartoon - not meant as, but could be a counter-narrative to the actions we'll see and hear: "it's all about freedom" (to ignore a pandemic).

It's our birthday, by tradition as well as years pursuing a vision. A majority of high school students lack proficiency in "US History", according to a recent study. And their parents? Well... another holiday among generations. The most insistent in "freedom" to party hearty and interpret the COVID-19 as a liberal-leaning hoax... places like FL and TX, ND, & OK and other.... What have they learned?

Many of us with phones &/or computers in the U.S., do see what's happened since 2015 or so. (E.g., "insanity"?)
It's like Mussolini and Hitler and Satan working in unison as an organization. Fellini gone bad, on the set of Woody Allen's "Bananas".
(sigh)

Thank you so much for the non-Americans who still see the same America some of has have tried mightily to sustain.
The #trumpvirus of ignorance and hate has overtaken 'the system' but still we have some Constitution left. And hope. And friends.

The repost from New Year's 2020 - hah - I was hoping/wishing as a year of clear vision. Well, for those with focus and fact-enjoyment:

Please listen / think on the words. It's a history lesson on the original vision and early growing pains of America.

Once the religious, the hunted and weary

Like good Christians some would burn the witches

But still from near and far to seek America

But she just patiently smiled and bore a child
To be their spirit and guiding light
The Blue and Grey they stomped it
They kicked it just like a dog
And when the war was over
They stuffed it just like a hog
And though the past has its share of injustice
Kind was the spirit in many a way
But its protectors and friends have been sleeping
Now it’s a monster and will not obey

The spirit was freedom and justice
And its keepers seemed generous and kind
Its leaders were supposed to serve the country
But now they won’t pay it no mind
Cause the people grew fat and got lazy
Now their vote is a meaningless joke
They babble about law and order
But it’s all just an echo of what they’ve been told
Yeah, there’s a monster on the loose
It’s got our heads into the noose
And it just sits there watchin’

The cities have turned into jungles
And corruption is stranglin’ the land
The police force is watching the people
And the people just can’t understand
We don’t know how to mind our own business
'Cause the whole world’s got to be just like us
Now we are fighting a war over there
No matter who’s the winner we can’t pay the cost
‘Cause there’s a monster on the loose
It’s got our heads into the noose
And it just sits there watchin’

America, where are you now
Don’t you care about your sons and daughters
Don’t you know we need you now
We can’t fight alone against the monster
America, where are you now
Don’t you care about your sons and daughters
Don’t you know we need you now
We can’t fight alone against the monster

"America is held up as the 'land of the free and the home of the brave'. But its democratic credentials look less impressive when we consider: a fragile electoral system; low levels of turnout; the breathtaking intensity of voter suppression; the outdated and discriminatory Electoral College; the role of corrupt capitalism; the power of lobbying; social media, local radio and Russian interference; dubious Supreme Court decisions; the gerrymandering of electoral boundaries; and the frightening legacy of slavery and race."

Exactly, what does winning mean, how does one define 'winning a war', or to rephrase it; what is Americas plan? They bomb a foreign country (Iraq) as though they own it, then when that country wants to kick out their army for bombing targets within their country, they get threatened with sanctions by #America? What's that? Now they have stirred up hate against America, that's all. What possible benefit could that have had? When pres. Bush invaded Iraq on fake evicence, he at least presented fake evidence to the world and consulted others, this guy didn't even present his seeming razor thin evidence.

This is How a Society Dies

America & Britain are Textbook Examples of a New, Gruesome Phenomeon:

Rich Nations Self-Destructing Into Poor Failed States

Nobody seems to have noticed: the only two rich societies in the world with falling:
  • Life expectancies
  • Incomes
  • Savings
  • Happiness
  • Ttrust
It’s not one of history’s most improbable coincidences that America and Britain are collapsing in eerily similar ways, at precisely the same time. It’s a relationship. What connects the dots?

How did the English speaking world end up like the new Soviet Union?

To understand that point, consider the fact that you yourself probably think that’s an overstatement.

The Soviet Union couldn’t provide basics for its citizens — hence the famous breadlines. In America, people beg each other for money to pay for insulin and antibiotics, decent food is unavailable in vast swathes of the country, and retirement and paying off one’s debt are impossibilities.

Just like in the Soviet Union, basics are becoming both unavailable and unaffordable. What happens? People die.

Worth a read -- the political and societal divide in Washington state, especially Yakima, is a very good example of what is happening across the United States.

The Divide in Yakima Is the Divide in America

"The changes in this farming valley, known as the nation’s fruit basket, mirror demographic trends in numerous U.S. cities where the population is becoming increasingly less white. Ms. Gutiérrez represents a major shift not only because of her ethnicity, but because of her age — she was 26 when first elected. In Yakima, young adults are nearly twice as likely to be Latino as older adults."

"In most diversifying American cities, the age dynamics are just as striking, a New York Times analysis has found. In nearly 100 U.S. metropolitan areas — from Santa Fe to New York and dozens of cities in between — whites comprise the majority of residents over the age of 45, and the minority of adults younger than that."

"We knew that the president welcomed assistance from a foreign power in order to win an election, and has fawned over his political patron in this endeavor, Vladimir Putin, since he became president. We knew that though he was not competent enough to construct a conspiracy, he was eager to collude with a foreign foe to defeat his domestic one. And we knew that he then lied about it as baldly as he lies about almost everything, and tried repeatedly to obstruct the investigation into the affair. His attorney general then blatantly lied about the key conclusions of the Mueller report, distorting the public debate for weeks as he kept the contents under wraps, and then bet that Americans, with our gnat-like attention spans, would simply move on."

"We also knew that in contemporary America, none of these facts matter in the slightest. The notion that the average citizen should care deeply about the rule of law and constitutional norms — and even actively defend them — has become terribly passé. Now, all that truly matters is whether we are entertained by someone who can command televisual excitement the way Trump does on a daily, hourly basis. If he can’t, whatever the underlying facts, no one gives a damn."

"Liberty and Justice for All" - Independence Day (4th of July) 2019

Here is the once-proud symbol of America's values and aspirations, as a beacon of hope and opportunity.

On the pedestal, engraved to outlast the attacks on our fundamental beliefs about the goodness and value of people:

“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!” - Emma Lazarus
And now... 243 years later, we have.... THE MONSTER.
This is an anthem which might well replace others - it is a factual history, not all peaceful and altruistic, but reality. And today, now, it is imperative to remember the original vision of America, with its ideals and values and compassion towards "We the People".

PLEASE WATCH THIS MUSIC VIDEO - It is great rock, great history, and poetry... And the message is crucial: "America, where are you now? Don't you care about your sons and daughters?" Watch & listen closely. Sing along. Celebrate the promise of America.

The Monster

Lyrics:

Once the religious, the hunted and weary
Chasing the promise of freedom and hope

Far from the reaches of Kingdom and pope
Like good Christians some would burn the witches

To be their spirit and guiding light

And once the ties with the crown had been broken

And till the railroad linked ocean to ocean
Many the lives which had come to an end
While we bullied, stole and bought a homeland
We began the slaughter of the red man
But still from near and far to seek America

They came by thousands to court the wild
But she just patiently smiled and bore a child
To be their spirit and guiding light
The Blue and Grey they stomped it
They kicked it just like a dog
And when the war was over
They stuffed it just like a hog
And though the past has its share of injustice
Kind was the spirit in many a way
But its protectors and friends have been sleeping
Now it's a monster and will not obey

THE MONSTER

One more time. If this were to go bonkers-viral, it might help in the reflection/learning from history department. Or is too late?
The lyrics are tough at some points, so I've provided them below. Read along, sing along - it's great rock, and rings so TRUE:
"America, where are you now? Don't you care about your sons and daughters?" Not an academic question. An anthem.
Those that do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it, so it is said. We were never without faults and evil, but we tried...

THE MONSTER - Lyrics

Once the religious, the hunted and weary
Chasing the promise of freedom and hope

The Blue and Grey they stomped it
They kicked it just like a dog
And when the war was over
They stuffed it just like a hog
And though the past has its share of injustice
Kind was the spirit in many a way
But its protectors and friends have been sleeping
Now it's a monster and will not obey

The spirit was freedom and justice
And its keepers seemed generous and kind
Its leaders were supposed to serve the country
But now they won't pay it no mind
Cause the people grew fat and got lazy
Now their vote is a meaningless joke
They babble about law and order
But it's all just an echo of what they've been told
Yeah, there's a monster on the loose
It's got our heads into the noose
And it just sits there watchin'

The cities have turned into jungles
And corruption is stranglin' the land
The police force is watching the people
And the people just can't understand
We don't know how to mind our own business
'Cause the whole world's got to be just like us
Now we are fighting a war over there
No matter who's the winner we can't pay the cost
'Cause there's a monster on the loose
It's got our heads into the noose
And it just sits there watchin'

America, where are you now
Don't you care about your sons and daughters
Don't you know we need you now
We can't fight alone against the monster
America, where are you now
Don't you care about your sons and daughters
Don't you know we need you now
We can't fight alone against the monster
America...America...America...America...
