Hailing from the Northern hemisphere, where autumn has started, we had ever cooler and wetter weather for days now. I woke up this morning to the steady sound of rain, and my first thought was "now I know where those two rainproof jackets are". So cycling to work left me mostly dry, a podcast in my ears. What was your first thought when you woke up? "Want coffee"? "I'm late"? "Narrrgghffllff...zzzZz..."? Or did a dream blend into the waking up? Or does whatever you thought of when falling asleep seamlessly continue to bother, or amuse you at wakey-wakey time? Tell us, if you might.
(Fwiw my second thought today was "prepare coffee", though sometimes the those incoherent dreams fade slowly and make for hilarious thoughts while preparing breakfast.) I am aware that those proverbial Monday mornings, hated by some, in their being emotionally loaded are likely a function of the proverbial 9-to-5 job world, and possibly a less than ideal job environment. Would you agree? You may or may not be part of that - if you're not, what is waking up for you?
A slight change of scenery today, a different café with artisans working the equipment, and coffee that tickles your senses like good red wine can, with hints of fruit, nuts, a rich body, serving as a fantastic reminder that this day is going to be good to you. Order a pixel drink of choice.
It’s a longstanding daily tradition started by Lawrence (LD) Williams on g+. Peeps throughout the world check in to mingle. It’s been likened to what folks do around a water cooler, on a front porch or at a cafe-bar, but online. If pressed for time just wave (like) as you run/fly/swim by. You’ll always be seen and appreciated.
#Checkin is a daily post-thread where regulars and visitors alike come to chat, as the sun travels through all time zones.
When consumer G+'s sun set, the original checkin (hosted by LD) seamlessly reappeared at MeWe. Pluspora’s checkin also began not long after. #CheckIn is a convenient neighbourhood place where regulars and visitors alike know they can go to chat with familiar friends or with friends they haven’t met yet, as the sun travels through all time zones.
Pluspora CheckIn was initially set up by Su Ann Lim with LD Williams’s help. #Newhere? Think of CheckIn as your virtual local corner establishment where you may know, and get to know, many of the regulars. I’m @Carsten Raddatz (劉愷恩), this week’s moderator at the #Checkin community. Starting August 2019, Pluspora #CheckIn is now hosted by a round robin team:
@Carsten Raddatz (劉愷恩) (Germany, GMT+2) @Cass M (Canada, GMT-6) @Nathan Weaver (USA, GMT-5) @Su Ann Lim (Canada, GMT-7)
How to get included in the daily #CheckIn invitation? Just jump in and comment/like. How to get uninvited? Let us know via comment or direct message.
IMPORTANT: To continue to get notifications regardless of rotation, please follow all the current team members. If by any chance you do not see the day’s #CheckIn post in your notifications/stream, just search #CheckIn. It is a daily forum. There is a new post every day.

It's a gray and cloudy Monday evening here. I started my day with a nice cup of coffee and I've been fasting ever since. I'll sit down to a nice dinner in a few minutes and my tummy appreciates the pause in activity.
I am required by my physio to take a twenty minute walk every day. So, I walk to a lovely nearby cafe, order a skinny chai latte, and write or read for an hour before going home. On Tuesdays I can stop in at the book mobile on the way back!!!
I got 15 minutes of extra sleep this morning. I wake up and immediately begin breakfast: oatmeal and coffee. I don't even think about it, unless something is missing. It's an absolute routine and requires no thought. When breakfast is finished, I go back upstairs, feed my goldfish then stop for a few moments to check Pluspora, heh.
I must have awoken 3 or 4 times last night, and everytime it was due to this post-apocalyptic dream / almost nightmare that I kept falling back into. Ugh. I don't feel as though I got any rest at all. Coffee!!!
...woke up this morning, realized that yes...it was Monday, and that here we are in the Philly are the last day of Sept, and that tomorrow, the first day of Oct the temps are indicated to be 10F degrees hotter than today...and Wednesday a record-breakin 92F...wth?!?
I just know it will soon be back to driving to work in the dark again...bugger.
(Yawn....rubbing eyes) Hmm? What is the first thought when I wake up?
Usually, 'I wonder who's connected via Pluspora right now?' Then, I can't resist taking a peek before a morning routine before returning online to participate.
But today, Zach woke me up at 4am with his clear "I hafta go out' moan. It's an automatic reflex to make myself to the backdoor, let him out and then return to bed together, drop off for a few more zzzzzz.
@Muse a green tea loving Paloma? 😂 How delightful! Do you know her name?
I do not have much trouble with Mondays anymore. I wake at the same time mostly everyday and have always kept regular habits once I was an adult( sorta I always had hard responsibilities until I married) It is a sunny day and we snuggle and chat in the morning before starting the day since we have cats they get fed and cleaned first then I make breakfast, Q showers and we eat at a nice pace....I love the mornings ...we are getting colder each day and I am happy to need a blanket or two. I have a;ready mended a small unraveling of a sweater before I cam on line....I am trying to limit my time since this is a huge times waster. I have tea and will make us our second cup soon....
...ahhh, yes...when I was in grad school....far more used to snow in the NYC/Conn region...I often referred to that as 'Pgh Snow'...because it would snow most of the night in Pittsburgh...the next morning the ground everywhere would be covered...but not on the sidewalks, the roads, or any concrete...and it would mostly be gone by evening...freaky snow, to my Long Island experiences...
@Su Ann Lim We have a skiff that will melt quickly (although it's snowing again). Nothing like southern Alberta with their 20 cm or more. Hopefully they got crops off because this much moisture will make it hard to get going again.
@Carsten Raddatz (劉愷恩) it is a bit quieter. I like snow after mid-November (hint to weather god) as it brightens up the night.
It's cooling off here as well, enough so I can start planting seeds and whatnot. We don't get extremely cold, usually - it did snow a few years back, just enough to dust the ground. I wake to the desire for more sleep. It's a trap, obviously.
@Samuel Smith what kind of seeds do you plant at this time of year?
Love the 'toon! It reminded me of a youngling who lived with me for a few summers. Fortunately, my previous dog considered waking up humans as his job and a sport he enjoyed immensely. He used different strategies for different people. For me, he'd croon softly into an ear with happy sounds. He knew that would make me laugh which woke me up right away. But for the youngling, when I gave the Lab the go ahead, he'd leap into the air and land on him. Then pull the duvet off at his feet first and start licking them furiously. If the boy didn't respond enough Sam just continued pulling off the duvet and licking until he got to the kid's head. A full face wash from an enthusiastic, happy adult Lab, skilled at dodging, never failed as a wake-up call.
@astheroth 明日照 flowers are not friends because of pollen allergies?
@Su Ann Lim Winter vegetables here are spinach, lettuce, and the like. I'm going to try tomatoes as well. Sunflowers aren't in season but I'm going to see if they grow anyway. I have perennial lemongrass. I bought some from the Asian market and threw the scraps in the compost, which sprouted so I planted them and they've given me more than I can eat!
(Continuing from yesterday) @UnclePirate (Stan McCann) Oh yes, AOC is another person it would be hoot to have a chat with over coffee!
@Carsten Raddatz (劉愷恩) I'm interested in what these wishlist interesting people have to say and the contexts in how their views developed. Hwr, I'd also be very interested to get a sense of what they are like in person.
@Samuel Smith You're so fortunate! Perennial lemongrass! I read we are supposed to be able to grow it, but to date I haven't seen success. You're trying tomatoes and sunflower? Please update us on your progress!
How much of that stuff do you drink that you have to pee, for crying out loud???
No, We were talking about what's the first thing that comes to mind when you wake up in the morning. Well, I'm one of the lucky few men over 50 who does not have middle-of-the-night bathroom issues. I sleep right on through, but as a result of this, peeing is definitely the first thing I have to do when I awake in the morning.
Oh, and, as you know... booze/coffee/tea are all diuretics. I can actually get dehydrated drinking bourbon. ;)
